Living in a piece of Lucerne history

Directly on the Reuss, at the foot of the Reussbrücke, is the stately property «Sonnenberghaus im Zöpfli» at Kramgasse 1.

In 1787, the predecessor building came into the possession of Marshal Jakob Anton Thüring von Sonnenberg. He acquired the house for his son and had it rebuilt in the same year. Since 1968, the building has been entered in the cantonal monument list under the designation «Sonnenberghaus im Zöpfli» and is among the buildings worthy of protection.

The structure is a stately Lucerne bourgeois house from the end of the 18th century, with special significance in the Old Town cityscape. Notable are the art-historically interesting furnishings of the interior rooms facing the Reuss, as well as the richly carved, early Baroque portal and the panels with grisaille paintings on the exterior.
